Interventional Radiology (IR) Technologist

Interventional Radiology Technologists work in interventional radiology laboratories, assisting radiologists and other medical professionals in diagnosing and treating various medical conditions using minimally invasive procedures. Their primary responsibilities include preparing patients for procedures, monitoring vital signs during procedures, and providing post-procedure care. Interventional Radiology Technologists typically require an Associate's degree in Radiologic Technology and a current certification. They must also have experience in interventional radiology laboratory settings.

General Requirements

To become an IR technologist, you typically need:

  • A postsecondary certificate or associate's degree in radiologic technology
  • Completion of a training program approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)
  • Passing the Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT) or Registered Radiologic Technologist (RRT) exam
